Zinnia seeds per square?

Post  Sunflower Girl on 1/24/2012, 3:56 pm

Hello Everyone,

I am interested in growing zinnias here in Central Florida to grow as cut flowers to sell at the farmer's market. I would like to know if anyone has grown zinnias in their square foot garden and how many seeds did you plant per square?Smile Thanks! Sunflower Girl

Having grown zinnias my gut would say 4 to a square. However, the following guide might help. See what the 'thin to' recommendation is and use this:

1 per square
foot: plants that are thinned or planted 12 inches apart.

4 per square
foot: plants that are thinned or planted 6 inches apart.

9 per square
foot: plants that are thinned or planted 4 inches apart.

16 per
square foot: plants that are thinned or planted 3 inches apart.

I grow zinnias outside of my SFG and they can take up a lot of space. If I was to grow the tall ones in the SFG I would seed them elsewhere and transplant 1or 2 per square. I love them they are so pretty and the bees like them too. I love you
